The ideal Athletic Trainer candidate will feel comfortable working with middle school and high school athletes and coaches. Additionally, this position will support the orthopedic practice, assisting the physician teams in a clinical practice environment by providing the highest quality of care to patients in a friendly and caring environment.

Provide athletic training services at local area schools and youth programs under the direction of the team physician in accordance with state athletic training practice act. Foster and maintain strong relationships between sports medicine team, schools, youth organizations, athletes and providers.

General Responsibilities of Athletic Trainer:
  • Engage in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of student athlete injuries.
  • Educate athletes, coaching staff and parents on various aspects of injury prevention, first aid and strength and conditioning.
  • Conduct taping and other pre-game/pre-practice preparation.
  • Communicate confidentially with student athletes, parents, athletic directors, coaches and physicians regarding student athletes' playing status and ability to return to competition or practice.
  • Attend and provide medical response coverage for home athletic events.
  • Refer athletes to appropriate physicians and specialists.
  • Perform administrative duties, including the maintenance of injury reports for student athletes; establish an Emergency Action Plan for all sports and venues.
  • Assist with pre-participation medical/orthopedic screenings.
  • Regularly use therapeutic modalities, therapeutic/rehabilitation equipment, first aid supplies, standard athletic training supplies and possibly a golf cart/gator.

Office Practice Responsibilities:
  • Accurately perform patient intake and triage.
  • Ability to present all clinically relevant information, including medical records, x-ray and test results, and working diagnosis to the physician.
  • Actively involve and educate patients regarding their therapy program and outcome goals and foster communication with physical therapy team.
  • Ability to perform appropriate DME and cast application and instruction.
  • Act as a physician-patient liaison in both surgical and nonsurgical conditions in conveying concerns and information. Responsible for educating patients and ensuring that the physician's instructions/protocols are understood and adhered to by the patient.


Education Requirement: BS in healthcare-related field.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Pennsylvania Athletic Training License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • NATA BOC Certification.
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office and internal computer systems.
