The Director of Patient Access serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing oversight and daily operational leadership for all Patient Access services, functions and staff across Grand View Hospital, outpatient centers and a Central Scheduling Call Center.
  • The Director of Patient Access promotes harmonious interaction with hospital staff and acts as a liaison with physician practices to ensure the delivery of excellent Patient Access services throughout the health system.
  • Works collaboratively with all hospital leadership to ensure high-quality Patient Access services, resulting in improved patient experiences.
  • Develops departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Proactively manages all aspects of the front-end revenue cycle, including scheduling, registration and insurance verification/financial clearance processes.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of systems, processes and payer-specific authorization mechanisms and requirements, contributing to the proactive identification of opportunities for revenue cycle improvement and enhancement.
  • Focuses on maintaining and improving revenue results by controlling point-of-service patient collections and third-party payer authorization/reimbursement requirements.
  • Ensures the maximum performance of revenue management, including accurate and timely scheduling, registration, financial clearance and customer service.
  • Routinely reports on the performance of all Patient Access functions, including key performance indicators, benchmarks and metrics.
  • Provides direction and coordination for the development and implementation of performance improvement and quality improvement for the Patient Access team.
  • Plans a departmental budget working within prescribed financial parameters.
  • Responsible for fiscal planning and department operations, as well as ensuring staff scheduling, evaluations, new hire trainings and professional development are managed appropriately.
  • This position has 24/7 accountability for all hospital Patient Access operations provided at Grand View Hospital.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet diverse business needs and service standards.


  • 4-year/Bachelor's degree (required).
  • Master's degree in Health Administration or a related field (preferred).
  • NAHAM-certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in hospital patient access or similar functional area.
  • Minimum of 5 years of revenue cycle leadership experience in a health system.
  • Knowledge in hospital patient access best practices and procedures across multiple facilities, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to patient access operations in a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of front-end revenue cycle management.
