Responsibilities

Under the direction of the professional nurse, the Hospice Aide assists the patient in the home setting with personal care activities and incidental duties that the patient requires. The Hospice Aide demonstrates competent knowledge and skills to ensure care is appropriate to patients served: adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma/GED required.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to make quality, independent decisions required.
  • Ability to listen to others required.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality required.

  • Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions required.
  • Self-directed required.
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities required.
  • Possesses familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) required.
  • Competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems required.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
  • Nursing Assistant, certified upon hire, required or, in lieu of licensure, must have completed 75 hours of supervised practical training under a suitable approved setting.
