The Lead Trauma Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for coordination and optimization of all Trauma APP educational efforts, under the direction of the Trauma Program Director. They will coordinate staff schedules and work closely with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Program Director in quality and performance initiatives. The position is a full-time position with required participation in in-house nocturnal and weekend coverage. The Lead Trauma APP will play an active role in supervision, recruitment, retention and professional growth of the APP staff.

The Trauma Advanced Practitioners (APPs) function as clinical experts in general surgery, trauma and surgical critical care and work in tandem with the acute care surgeons, who staff the in-house Trauma Service 24/7/365. The APPs will function as the primary resuscitator in trauma activations under the supervision of the trauma surgeon. They will perform initial evaluation and resuscitative care in both the Trauma Bay and Emergency Department. Trauma APPs provide bedside care as part of a multidisciplinary team across the entire care continuum from the Surgical Intensive Care Unit until discharge from the Med/Surg floor. They will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health professionals in coordinating and delivering patient care, facilitating communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and medical staff. They will perform a spectrum of bedside procedures within their scope of privilege within the ICU and Trauma Bay environs and assist the acute care surgeons when operative interventions are required. The Trauma APP participates extensively in surveillance of care protocols, as well as all trauma performance improvement provider forums.

The successful Lead APP candidate will have previous leadership experience in advanced practice and have at least 5 years of clinical experience in both trauma and surgical critical care. Experience in ICU care of neurosurgical patient populations is preferred.


  • Master's degree in Nursing or from an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program and over 5 to 7 years of experience in an ICU and trauma setting required.
  • Over 1 to 3 years of experience in a leadership role required.

  • MEDITECH experience a plus.

  • Nurse Practitioner licensed in Pennsylvania or Physician Assistant licensed in Pennsylvania, upon hire, required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire required.
  • Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) upon hire required.
  • ATLS upon hire required.
