Neuro-Surgeon - Grand View Medical Practices
Full Time, Days / Evenings - This will be a 24/7 schedule; night and weekend call coverage is mandatory. The 2 FTE Neuro-Surgeons will cover all call for the new Level II Trauma unit at Grand View Hospital, as well as start a new outpatient practice in conjunction with Upper Bucks Orthopedics Associates—a Grand View Medical Practice. Outpatient offices could include Sellersville, Hatfield or various ancillary locations within the GVH network.

Responsibilities

The Neuro-Surgeon(s) will work in conjunction with the Chief of Surgery and the Medical Director of the GVH Trauma Center, as well as the Chief Medical Officer. He/she will be responsible for covering all trauma call for neurosurgical patients at the GVH Level II Trauma Center 365 days per year, 24 hours per day.

The Neuro-Surgeons will work collegially with GVH administrators, GVH directors and/or managers, GVH perioperative services and physicians to provide administrative, operational and surgical support to the Neuro-Surgery department, under the direction of the Department of Surgery. Neurosurgical oversight may include working with the Chief of Surgery and the trauma department to collaborate on budgets, expenditures, strategic business planning and development, marketing, IT system optimization, safety and quality.

The Neuro-Surgeons will be members of the Department of Surgery. He/she will report to the Chief of Surgery and, in his/her absence, to the Chief Medical Officer. The Neuro-Surgeons will also partner with the Director of Surgical Services and Anesthesia Department to best address emergency neurosurgeries.

Areas of Responsibility:
Work collaboratively with and under the direction of the Chief of Surgery, Chief Medical Officer and Trauma Program Medical Director in the following areas:
  • Overseeing the establishment of the new Neuro-Surgery service line.
  • Providing Surgical Department leadership, in conjunction with executive leadership, to achieve strategic goals, priorities and initiatives.
    • Working to translate goals into actionable business tactics that are aligned with the strategic plans of the department, the GVMP surgical group and the health system.
  • Overseeing all facets of Neuro-Surgery surgical department.
    • Overseeing clinical quality data collection and reporting.
    • Engaging with clinical and administrative teams to identify, develop and implement quality and safety strategies of the department.
    • Ensuring physician compliance with quality and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Active participation with the surgical and trauma peer review process.
  • Promoting professionalism, integrity and collaboration within the organization.
  • Working with surgical services and physicians to enhance alignment of GVH vision, goals, directives and benchmarks.
  • Membership in the Perioperative Leadership Committee and attendance at various other meetings as directed by the CMO.
  • Complying with all Joint Commission, Department of Health, PTSF and GVH policies and procedural requirements. Abiding by GVH Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Call coverage of the Level II Trauma Center, including every other weekend (Friday, 5pm until Monday, 8am), 2 evenings per week, and rotating holidays or as needed to ensure compliance with PTSF standards.
  • Documenting in MEDITECH EMR (acute).

Outpatient Responsibilities:
  • When not on-call for the Level II Trauma Center, working collaboratively with Upper Bucks Orthopedic Associates (a Grand View Medical Practice) to care for, treat and provide appropriate surgical intervention for patients who need neurosurgery/spine surgery.
  • Outpatient practices may include any area that UBOA cares for patients, including, but not limited to, Sellersville, Quakertown, Pennsburg, Hatfield, Harleysville, Chalfont and Lansdale.
  • 32 clinical hours in outpatient practice.
  • Documenting in MEDITECH EMR (ambulatory).

Educational Requirements/Licenses:
  • BC/BE in Neurosurgery.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Neurosurgery at an accredited institution.
  • Pennsylvania medical license.
  • ACLS/BLS/PALS.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
