Responsibilities

Biomedical Equipment Technicians are responsible for keeping all biomedical equipment in good working order. Their duties include installing and maintaining biomedical equipment, preparing equipment performance reports and instructing personnel in the care and use of equipment. The Biomedical Technician is responsible for performing I/PMs and repairs of clinical equipment in an efficient and responsive manner. The essential functions of the Biomedical Equipment Technician are:

Essential Functions:
  • Performs inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment as scheduled to meet all regulatory standards. Appropriate level of I/PMs completed to I/PMs scheduled is 90% for low-risk equipment, 100% for high-risk equipment.
  • Performs repairs on equipment in the most efficient and timely method to minimize downtime and cost.
  • Maintains proper documentation of all I/PMs, repairs and any other information relating to the function of all equipment. This documentation should be accurate and current to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Assists in maintaining ongoing Performance Improvement Program to identify quality concerns and issues.
  • Assists in monitoring the appropriateness of all contracts, service and repairs to ensure the efficient utilization of all outside service contracts and repairs.
  • Performs incoming safety and functional inspection tests on all newly acquired equipment and all rented and/or demo equipment to ensure patient, employee and physician safety.
  • Participates in nursing educational programs to promote proper utilization and understanding of clinical equipment.
  • Attends appropriate evaluation, in-services and any other sessions relating to the operational conditions of clinical equipment.
  • Performs repairs of the in-house television system to ensure efficient functioning of the system.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology and over 3 to 5 years of repair and maintenance of medical equipment required, or high school diploma/GED and over 7 years of repair and maintenance of medical equipment required.
