Responsibilities

The overall goal of the Cardiology Nurse is to be self-directed to provide optimum patient care utilizing the nursing process. The nurse will assess, identify needs, plan, implement appropriate interventions, document and evaluate outcomes for the cardiac patient. The Cardiology Nurse:

  • Fosters an environment in special procedures conducive to the development and maintenance of efficient and effective patient care delivery.
  • Prepares and assists with the preparation of patients undergoing invasive procedures: patient assessment; IV therapy; administering IV medication as ordered by the physician, including contrast media; monitoring patients receiving conscious sedation; and providing care/intervention in the primary recovery period.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency equipment necessary to provide safe and effective patient care delivery.
  • Evaluates the patient care delivery, initiating and implementing changes needed to ensure quality patient care.
  • Assists with the implementation of inter/intradepartmental education by maintaining open channels of communication.
  • Possesses adequate knowledge of special procedures, including imaging practices and radiation protection.
  • Provides for patient and family education, before, during and after invasive procedure.
  • Assists with orientation of other nurses.
  • Participates in professional continuing education to keep current in nursing.
  • Acts as liaison between Cardiology and Nursing units.
  • Supports quality planning and improvement efforts and is active component in unit-based QP&I activities.
  • Assesses, evaluates and conducts supervision of stress patients undergoing stress tests.
     

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree in Nursing and over 1 to 3 years of cardiology experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and over 1 to 3 years of cardiology experience preferred.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills required.
  • Ability to work as part of a team required.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality required.
  • Service-oriented required.
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude required.
  • Competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems required.
  • Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems required.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse in PA – licensed, upon hire, required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
