Certified Cancer Registrar

Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Oncology Service Line, the Certified Cancer Registrar is responsible for identification and ongoing maintenance of data on all cancer patients. The Certified Cancer Registrar complies in accordance with the Cancer Program Standards set forth by the ACS Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry.
Essential Functions of the Certified Cancer Registrar:

Establishes and maintains registry functions as defined in the current standards of the ACS and PCR.

Accurately and completely identifies all appropriate cases for the cancer registry database.

Prepares oncology-related reports for staff, physicians and outside organizations as requested.

Accurately abstracts required data items within 6 months of the date of first contact at GVH for each new malignancy identified at GVH according to the current conventions of the ACS and PCR.

Reports new cancer data to the NCDB as required by the ACS.

Performs quality control audits, including 10 percent physician reviews of the registry data and state-mandated audits of case-finding and abstracting, and reports findings to the Cancer Control Committee.

Maintains current and accurate follow-up as required by the ACS.

Ensures accuracy and maintains security of registry data and patient confidentiality.

Pursues continuing education opportunities to maintain credentials.

Coordinates and provides staff support for weekly tumor boards.

Participates in quarterly Cancer Committee and Breast Program Leadership committee meetings.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree in a related healthcare field required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Cancer Registry certificate required.
