Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the professional staff, the Clinical and Quality Assistant performs certain non-complex duties related to patient care and functioning of the unit. The Clinical and Quality Assistant functions to support the staff by assisting with clerical duties, along with delivery of patient care to varied age groups, while providing a calm, caring and clean environment. Essential duties could include:
  • Assisting other members of the healthcare team in delivering safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Assisting with or providing basic nursing care in order to help the nurse meet the activities of daily living for the patient.
  • Assisting with patient mobility needs, including turning, positioning, transferring and ambulation of patients as directed, using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  • Maintaining safe patient environment.
  • Responding to emergency situations within the scope of their training and performing under the direction of the nursing staff.
  • Performing vital signs, including use of automatic blood pressure machine, as directed by the nursing staff.
  • Under the direction of the registered nurse, providing basic skin care to prevent skin breakdown and maintain/improve skin integrity.
  • Answering call bells and responding to patients' requests that are within their scope or communicating their needs to a nurse.
  • Transferring and moving all patient age groups via wheelchair, bed or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital.
  • Possessing and demonstrating a working knowledge of equipment in order to ensure a safe environment.
  • Understanding and respecting patients' rights to privacy and dignity in order to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ensuring that equipment and supplies considered essential are functional, safe and readily accessible in order to provide a safe environment.
  • Performing department-specific maintenance duties as appropriate to department.
  • Acting as a patient advocate to ensure safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Adhering to standards of practice for infection control and universal precautions.
  • Assisting with communications between Department Manager, House Supervisor and unit staff regarding the 24-Hour Report, admissions, transfers and bed availability to operationalize department activities.
  • Answering phone and faxing requests for patient information and physician discharge instructions for primary care provider per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Organizing, maintaining and updating departmental files and records in an accurate manner to provider for timely and efficient processing of information.
  • Copying and faxing records in a prompt manner according to established medical records policy in order to fulfill requests from appropriate sources.
  • Assuming responsibility for ordering and restocking supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department within budgetary parameters.
     

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma/GED required.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Nursing Assistant, certified upon hire, preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required, company-provided in 2 weeks.
