Responsibilities

The Dosimetrist develops treatment plans of various modalities, including, but not limited to, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT for adult and geriatric patients. The Dosimetrist works closely with physicist(s) and radiation oncologist(s) to produce plans that meet the physicians treatment, prescription and other criteria, as instructed. The Dosimetrist demonstrates competent knowledge of radiation oncology and dosimetry principles and skills to assure that the assessment of care is appropriate to the adult and geriatric patient served.


Essential Functions:

• Produces appropriate and accurate computerized treatment plans for review by the Radiation Oncologist in a timely manner to promote efficient adult and geriatric patient scheduling.
• Operates treatment planning systems, including record and verify, dosimetry printers.
• Manufactures electron plates as needed.
• Provides clear and concise written and verbal instructions to staff radiation therapists regarding the adult/geriatric patient’s set-up and treatment to promote continuity of care.
• Assists in the design and fabrication of special devices such as bolus, customer blocks and molds.
• Assists in tumor localization and simulation.
• Oversees clinical department operations in the absence of the supervisor.
• Instructs the staff technologists in both manual and computer calculations and treatment planning functions.
• Acquires relevant medical records of patients.
• Maintains patient billing.
• Maintains patient treatment statistics.
• Attends to the needs of the patient while in the department.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma/GED and over 3 to 5 years of clinical experience required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Radiation Therapist, licensed upon hire, preferred.
• MDCB certification upon hire, required
