Responsibilities

The Food Service Operator assists the department in the clerical aspects of preparation for the patient meal service through accurate menu processing. The Food Service Operator assists patients with menu selection. The Food Service Operator essential functions may include:

Essential Functions:
  • Solves customer problems, treats customer with dignity and respect, acknowledges customer and responds quickly to customer needs.
  • Answers questions within your scope of practice and refer other questions to the appropriate person.
  • Processes Room Service customer orders, including patient/family-initiated orders and those patients needing assistance. Assists patients with telephone call-backs or personal visitation as needed while ensuring adherence to all diet orders.
  • Documents number of meals served each day.
  • Answers phone calls and faxes orders for all food requests.
  • Receives and processes requests for diet changes via computer, fax or written format during downtime.
  • Coordinates processing of Nourishment Orders and prints Nourishment Labels.
  • Coordinates delivery of all tube feeding and oral supplement orders.
  • Wraps serviceware for tray delivery.
  • Responsible for following food safety and physical safety policies at all times, while utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) when required by management.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED required

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • 6 months to 1 year of related experience or education demonstrating knowledge of the normal and modified diets and the carbohydrate counting and protein exchange systems preferred.
