Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the teacher develops educational programs and learning experiences in accordance with established state regulations and the Center's objectives. Provides an atmosphere that is warm, friendly and conducive to learning. Responsible for supervising and providing direction to the Assistants and Aides. Responsible for preparing/maintaining all required reports, adhering to all safety regulations, and all communications with parents.

This position is teaching pre-K!

Responsibilities of the Head Teacher include:

  • Discussing lesson plans with other staff members on a weekly basis based on a curriculum outline to ensure competency in teaching the lesson.
  • Demonstrating imagination and creativity while providing activities for children that include experiences in social, emotional, intellectual and physical stimulation on a daily basis, as observed by the manager, to promote children's growth and development.
  • Designing and integrating stimulation and relaxation in the classroom schedule on a daily basis as observed by the manager in the development of a well-balanced program.
  • Guiding children in their toileting routines and rest times, and providing guidance in eating on a daily basis to foster maturation in children.
  • Providing outdoor activities or gross motor activities indoor in inclement weather on a daily basis to enhance overall physical development.
  • Facilitating positive behavior in children through verbal recognition and praise on a daily basis to reinforce good behavior.
  • Assembling class material and replenishing supplies when needed to supplement the curriculum.
  • Interacting appropriately with children as a facilitator during free play time when necessary to foster social development.
  • Designing a program that allows for children's input and adjusts the program according to their needs and interests on a daily basis to allow for individuality.
  • Recognizing that every child's attention span and abilities are different and treating each child in a different, but equal manner on a daily basis to ensure fairness.
  • Providing individual planning for all children with particular emphasis for children who have delays, on a weekly basis, to provide for more individualized attention.
  • Offering all children opportunities for success through a variety of instructional materials, on a daily basis, to foster positive self-esteem.
  • Recognizing children with special needs and referring to proper agencies, when applicable, after conferring with the Manager to aid familieis in obtaining professional assistance.
  • Evaluating child's progress through a written report with parents twice a year to keep parents informed about a child's intellectual, social, emotional and physical progress.
  • Developing consistency in handling children and providing guidance to staff concerning a child's inappropriate behavior, as needed, to ensure routine and appropriate actions are taken.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or similar field of study required.
  • Over 1 to 3 years of related experience required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 60 days of hire required.
  • First Aid within 60 days of hire required.
  • Private academic license upon hire required.
