Grand View Health's Children's Center provides child care and education for the staff and community of Bucks County's first hospital. Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Head Teacher develops educational programs and learning experiences in accordance with established state regulations and the Center's objectives. The Head Teacher provides an atmosphere that is warm, friendly and conducive to learning. The Head Teacher is responsible for supervising and providing direction to the Assistants and Aides. The Head Teacher is also responsible for preparing/maintaining all required reports and adhering to all safety regulations and all communications with parents.

Essential Functions:
  • Discusses lesson plans with other staff members on a weekly basis based on a curriculum outline to ensure competency in teaching the lesson.
  • Demonstrates imagination and creativity while providing activities for children that include experiences in social, emotional, intellectual and physical stimulation on a daily basis, as observed by Manager, to promote children's growth and development.
  • Designs and integrates stimulation and relaxation in the classroom schedule on a daily basis, as observed by the Manager, in the development of a well-balanced program.
  • Guides children in their toileting routines and rest times and provides guidance in eating (by modeling appropriate eating behaviors and manners) on a daily basis to foster maturation in children.
  • Provides outdoor activities or gross motor activities indoors in inclement weather on a daily basis to enhance overall physical development.
  • Facilitates positive behavior in children through verbal recognition and praise on a daily basis to reinforce good behavior.
  • Assembles class materials and replenishes supplies when needed to supplement the curriculum.
  • Integrates appropriate class trips into the lessons at least twice a year (subject to availability of transportation) to enrich the curriculum and expose the children to varied cultural experiences (Rooms 7 and 3 only).
  • Interacts appropriately with children as a facilitator during free play time when necessary to foster social development.
  • Designs a program that allows for children's input and adjusts the program according to their needs and interests on a daily basis to allow for individuality.
  • Recognizes that every child's attention span and abilities are different and treats each child in a different, but equal manner on a daily basis to ensure fairness.
  • Provides individual planning for all children with particular emphasis for children who have delays, on a weekly basis, to provide for more individualized attention.
  • Offers all children opportunities for success through a variety of instructional materials, on a daily basis, to foster positive self-esteem.
  • Recognizes children with special needs and refers to proper agencies, when applicable, after conferring with Manager to aid families in obtaining professional assistance.
  • Evaluates child's progress through a written report with parents twice a year to keep parents informed about child's intellectual, social, emotional and physical progress.
  • Develops consistency in handling children and provides guidance to staff concerning a child's inappropriate behavior, as needed, to ensure routine and appropriate actions are taken.
     
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or similar field of study and over 1 to 3 years of related experience required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated analytical skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills required.
  • Develops and delivers effective presentations required.
  • Self-directed required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 60 days of hire required.
  • First Aid within 60 days of hire required.
  • Private academic license upon hire required.
