Insurance Verification Specialist - Patient Registration
Full Time, 9am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities
The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for obtaining pre-verification of insurance for patients and communicating insurance coverage, eligibility and co-pays to all patients receiving elective procedures.
Essential Functions:

Accurately enters all benefit and precertification information required for billing purposes.

Utilizes the Referral/Reservation form and Pre-Admission letter to enter pertinent data for maintaining quality information.

Obtains precertifications when necessary.

Updates insurance information to staff in regards to referral and authorizations should they be required.

Maintains ongoing knowledge of insurance plans by reading insurance memos and bulletins.

Ability to recognize patients in financial need and provide charity applications and/or medical assistance applications.

Resolves outstanding insurance issues prior to admission.

Maintains pre-maternity lists and insurance work lists to ensure notification of copays is sent out to mothers due within 2 months of their expected delivery.

Meets with inpatients that have a balance due before they are discharged.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma/GED required.

Over 1 to 3 years of CPT and ICD coding and insurance billing required.

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business or similar field of study preferred.
