Responsibilities

The Lactation Consultant promotes, protects and supports breastfeeding while recognizing that breastfeeding is an individual decision.

Essential Functions:

• Creates a milieu that promotes learning for staff and patients.
• Conducts bedside lactation rounds.
• Consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems.
• Plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for maternity nursing staff.
• Plans, organizes and delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding inpatients.
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Able to collect, organize and summarize data related to breastfeeding activities
• Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, manage and develop lactation programs and ability to successfully assist mothers with breastfeeding skills required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing and over 1 to 3 years of experience in maternal-child health nursing preferred. OR
• Master's degree in health and wellness with a concentration in lactation consulting  and over 1 to 3 years of experience in maternal-child health nursing preferred.

• Lactation Consultant – IBCLC-certified, upon hire, required.
