Under the direction of and in conjunction with RN, the LPN is responsible for delivering patient care to all GVH patients and adheres to the standards set forth in the Nurse Practice Act of Pennsylvania, ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice*, and GVH's policies and procedures. Demonstrates competency in skills necessary to care for/manage assigned patients. The LPN:
  • Implements accepted standards of documentation on patient electronic medical records and other hospital forms to ensure that information affecting a patient, significant other or member of the healthcare team is properly recorded.
  • Administers medications safely according to established policies and procedures.
  • Administers injections.
  • Completes assessment and prepares patient for office visits with physician. Assessment includes taking vital signs and reviewing patient's medical history and current problems.
  • Acts as patient advocate to ensure that patient needs are met.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality to ensure patients' rights to privacy.
  • Implements physician's order and nursing plan of care according to established standards.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as making patient appointments, answering phones, scanning, etc.
  • Recognizes potential and actual emergency situations promptly, and responds within established guidelines to meet the needs of the patient.



  • Vocational diploma, Licensed Practical Nurse training and over 6 months to 1 year of acute care setting required.
