Under direction of the Office Manager for Workplace Health, the Medical Assistant is responsible for and demonstrates necessary skills for performing a variety of administrative and patient related duties to ensure quality care to patients. The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing administrative/clerical support in the completion of any related projects. The essential functions of the Medical Assistant are:

Essential Functions:
  • Greets patients and staff courteously. Demonstrates a responsible caring attitude towards all customers.
  • Assists unit secretary with registration overflow, chart maintenance and scheduling.
  • Ensures patient referrals are made in a timely manner; intercedes when necessary to expedite process.
  • Independently anticipates data/information/staff support needs and facilitates information collection and dissemination.
  • Responsible for taking accurate vital signs which include, but are not limited to, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressures and weight, and ensuring that adolescent, adult and geriatric patient history sheets are competed.
  • Responsible for performing tests, such as EKGs, PFTs, audio tests and vision tests, and must set up any other tests requested by the physician or mid level practitioner.
  • Must give injections and perform venipuncture.
  • Responsible for setting up rooms for physical and paper exams.
  • Must spin blood samples and complete paperwork properly.
  • Screens and redirects telephone calls and walk-in visitors.
  • Assists in the collection for clinical data for performance improvement purposes.
  • Organizes, maintains and updates files/databases.
  • Coordinates scheduling of appointments.
Schedule: Monday through, Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Hours may vary due to clinic needs.


  • High school diploma/GED.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make quality, independent decisions.
  • Service-oriented.
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • BAT and DOT collector training certification.
  • CAOHC certification.
  • NIOSH-approved spirometry certification.
  • Within 1 year of hire required.
