Responsibilities

Under general direction, the Painter provides all types of interior and exterior painting services throughout the hospital complex. The Painter is resposible for covering trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint. The essential functions of the Painter are:

Essential Functions:
  • Prepare all surfaces for painting by removing nails/screws; patching cracks and blemishes; scraping off flaking, peeling or blistering paint; sanding rough spots; caulking final surface cleaning, etc., according to individual job conditions in order to ensure that all specifications are completed in a professional and timely manner.
  • Remove all hardware from doors and windows and loosen lighting fixtures or cover these areas with masking tape, paper or cloth according to standard painting practices in order to maintain departmental objectives and quality standards.
  • Replace any items moved or removed prior to painting and clean up any dirt made during the project in order to ensure that the area is restored to normal when the painting is completed.
  • Clean and store all paint, tools and supplies according to established protocol in order to maintain the organization and useful life of such items.
  • Apply prime and finish coats to walls and trim in new construction and renovation projects according to project specifications in order to maintain established project completion dates.
  • Stain and paint both new and existing shelving and cabinets according to color specifications in order to complete assigned work requests.
  • Hang wallpaper according to established installation procedures in order to fulfill project requirements or departmental work requests.
  • Apply fresh paint to patient rooms, offices, treatment areas, corridors, stairwells, etc., according to assigned work requests in order to maintain good aesthetics throughout the hospital complex.
  • Paint accent stripes, designs and lettering according to assignment specifications in order to complete project requirements or departmental work requests.
  • Touch up surfaces according to assigned work requests in order to restore surfaces damaged or blemished by carts, stretchers, construction activity and normal wear.
  • Paint signs and signposts according to color and lettering/logo specifications in order to maintain signage throughout the hospital complex.
  • Paint all exterior structure surfaces, including doors, windows, railings, flashing, etc., according to request and color specifications in order to protect and maintain the appearance of such surfaces.
  • Apply water repellent products to masonry surfaces according to product direction in order to seal, waterproof and prevent the premature deterioration of such surfaces.
  • Perform some parking lot striping and other parking lot and drive painting as required in order to maintain all identifications pertinent to the effectiveness parking and traffic standards.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of paint and painting supplies according to established inventory control standards in order to complete assigned work requests by scheduled completion dates.
  • Assist in the hospital's snow removal program according to the Snow/Ice Removal Policy and Procedure in order to maintain a safe environment throughout the hospital campus.
  • Safely operate motor vehicles, tractors, golf carts and forklifts.
  • Assist with emergency and unscheduled repairs of building systems and equipment.

Schedule: Regularly scheduled 8am until 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Other hours as needed for accessing work areas.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Over 5 to 7 years of experience required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Service-oriented required.
  • Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion required.
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities required.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills required.
