Paratransport Driver
Full Time, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday

Under the direction of the Grand View Health Emergency and Transport Services Operations Supervisor, the Paratransit Driver is responsible for the transport of persons with disabilities in a safe, timely and courteous manner. The Paratransit Driver is also responsible for performing other related duties as required, while adhering to hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Operates a paratransit transportation vehicle safely and in strict accordance with all state and local laws.
  • Provides, safe and courteous transportation of paratransit passengers, which includes transporting, assisting and escorting passengers to and from their home, long-term care facilities and other designated locations as determined by departmental policy and the designated dispatcher.
  • Assists passengers on and off of the vehicle and ensures that all passenger restraint safety devices are used, including seat/shoulder belts, wheelchair lap belts and wheelchair wheel-locking devices.
  • Operates the passenger lift device to load and unload patients when appropriate, ensuring that all locking devices are used and operational during the loading and unloading procedure.
  • Receives daily driving assignments/schedules and modifies routes as directed by the designated dispatcher based on customer/passenger schedule additions, cancellations and departmental needs while maintaining a strict time schedule.
  • Operates a mobile telephone and two-way radio when safe to do so to keep in continual contact with the dispatcher, relaying information such as arrivals, departures, delays or other essential communication.
  • Enters all trip data into electronic reporting software in accordance with departmental specification and policy.
  • Reports accidents or passenger injuries/emergencies accurately and in a timely manner following established departmental procedures.
  • Operates, restocks and maintains the paratransit vehicle to ensure a constant state of readiness.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and skills to provide quality patient care.
  • When the Grand View Emergency and Transport Services office is closed, obtains information and coordinates efforts to arrange ambulance or wheelchair van transportation.

Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm


  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Service-oriented.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
  • Driver's license – PA upon hire.
