Under the direction of the department manager, charge nurse or Industrial Medicine registered nurse, the Quality Assistant assists with the registration of neonates, infants and pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients during period of high census or meal breaks; processes records; and handles telephone communications. The duties of the Quality Assistant may include the following:

  • Assisting with communications between the department manager, house supervisor and unit staff regarding the 24-hour report, admissions, transfers and bed availability to operationalize departmental activities.
  • Answering phone and faxing requests for patient information and physician discharge instructions to primary care provider under HIPAA guidelines.
  • Organizing, maintaining and updating departmental files and records in an accurate manner to provide for timely and and efficient processing of information.
  • Copying and faxing records in a prompt manner according to established medical records policy in order to fulfill requests from appropriate sources.
  • Assuming responsibility for ordering and restocking supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department within budgetary parameters.



  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.

  • Excellent organizational skills.
