Under general direction of the Radiation Oncologist and the Director of Cancer Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) – Radiation Oncology Navigator is responsible for the assessment and care of the adult and geriatric patient throughout the course of their radiation treatments. The Radiation Oncology Navigator coordinates services, facilitates necessary appointments and counseling, and coaches cancer patients undergoing treatment. Demonstrates competent knowledge and skills to ensure the assessment of care is appropriate to the age of the patients served: adults and geriatrics. Maintains rapport with patients/patients’ families or patients’ significant others by providing education, counseling and support as needed. Maintains a collaborative working relationship with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that patients receive appropriate, high-quality and coordinated care.
