Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse on the Orthopedic Unit assumes accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Nurse functions as a health team member through independent, interdependent and dependent roles within the healthcare system. Serving as the patient's advocate, the RN assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and "near misses" to appropriate management authority.
  • Implements policies, procedures and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures and devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
  • Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
  • Fosters a healing environment for patients and families.
  • Assumes responsibility and authority for establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and creating an individualized plan of care. Evaluates patient's response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Integrates clinical reasoning and knowledge as the foundation for decision-making.
  • Balances patient's rights and organization's responsibilities in providing professional and ethical care.

Unit Overview: The Orthopaedic/Trauma unit consists of 20 beds and primarily serves orthopedic and traumatic injuries. This unit is a fast-paced environment that sees a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity. All of our inpatient units are exceptionally collaborative among their staff and share a common philosophy around the value of teamwork, professionalism and excellent patient care.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Diploma in Nursing required.
  • 1 year of RN experience required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Nurse in PA – licensed, upon hire, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
