Responsibilities

The Senior Technologist functions primarily as a medical technologist or medical lab technician, following established practices and procedures. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the accession room.

This is a full-time position that includes every third weekend and holiday. There is also on-call for this role. The hours are Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3:00pm or 7am-3:30pm.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Accepting direction from the section supervisors and assuming responsibilities as deemed appropriate and as outlined by the supervisors.
  • Receiving assignments according to established departmental procedures and plans, organizing and prioritizing work duties to accomplish daily objectives.
  • Ensuring consistent operations in the accession room.
  • Performing venipuncture, testing procedures and related work on patients of all ages according to established protocols and standards.
  • Operating equipment and working with highly technical instrumentation according to established procedures and protocols in order to ensure the accuracy of test results.
  • Assaying appropriate controls, standards and other quality control material according to protocol in order to maintain the testing environment.
  • Participating in interviews and recommending candidates for new or vacant positions.
  • Communicating departmental issues with night shift staff as needed.
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent, or Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent required.
  • Over 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), i.e., ASCP, NCA, HEW, AMT, upon hire preferred.
