Responsibilities

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, storing and delivering medical/surgical supplies and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the reprocessing of all sterile and non-sterile materials, instruments and equipment for surgery and other hospital units. They are responsible for manual cleaning and decontamination, operating the mechanical washers and sonic units, testing autoclaves for efficiency and maintaining compliant records. The Sterile Processing Technician assists in the recall process as needed.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Over 6 months to 1 year of hospital experience preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • CRCST through IAHCSMM or CBSPD required.
    • For all new hires effective December 28, 2020, must achieve Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential or a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential within 18 months of hire date and must annually complete ten hours of continuing education related to the functions of a Central Service Technician.
