Under the direction of the Operating Room Manager and direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist functions as a member of the intraoperative team. The Surgical Technologist performs specific duties in preparation for surgical procedures and intraoperative care of the patient. The Surgical Technologist maintains competency of skill to care for patients of all ages.

Job duties include:
  • Understanding and participating in the process of change, evaluating new ideas or concepts relative to advances in clinical technology or healthcare delivery system to enhance self and department growth and development.
  • Participating in staff development, in-services and continuous education conferences to maintain competency and expand knowledge.
  • Applying correct principles of sterile technique and monitoring the surgical field to maintain the integrity of sterility.
  • Preparing surgical instruments and supplies to provide for procedural needs efficiently and expediously.
  • Adapting to changing situations in clinical setting that may require assigned shift variation or working extended hours to ensure delivery of patient care and maintain services to community.
  • Assisting in preparation and draping of patient to establish the sterile field.
  • Performing all duties as assigned and any duties within the scope of his/her performance abilities that are required to provide effective care of patients and efficient and economical operation of the department.
  • Assisting in care and preparation of surgical specimens to ensure correct specimen preparation.
  • Implementing patient care procedures for the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient and documenting to meet established standards.

This is a full-time, weekend program: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 7:00pm-7:30am


  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Over 1 to 3 years of experience in a hospital or surgery center in lieu of certification required.

  • Demonstrated written communication skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills required.
  • Self-directed required.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills required.

  • Surgical Tech, certified upon hire, preferred.
