Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist & Injury Prevention Coordinator
Full Time, Monday-Friday with Some Variable Hours, to include Nights & Weekends

Responsibilities

The Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice RN who works in collaboration with the Trauma Program leadership to facilitate Trauma education identified by the Trauma PIPS Program throughout the continuum of trauma care for all injured patients that meet Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation Pennsylvania Trauma Outcomes Study (PTOS) Registry and Grand View Health criteria.

The Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist's work requires the analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts, as well as in-depth and experience-based cross-functional trauma knowledge. The Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to provide empathy in interpersonal situations.

Essential Functions:
  • Facilitates and provides trauma education for clinical staff in all Trauma units (didactic and clinical hands-on).
  • Attends morning report and participates in Trauma multidisciplinary rounds. Identifies variances in care and complications in the Trauma patient through collaboration with the Trauma care team.
  • Assists with the development of action plans to address the correction of identified trends in quality, timeliness and system, hospital and external issues in the care of the trauma patient.
  • Serves as clinical resource on the nursing care of the Trauma patient across the continuum of care and assists with Trauma education through Trauma programs, including presentation, facilitation of the APTNCC, and other Trauma-related education as assigned. Educates staff to the PTSF PIPS requirements as assigned.
  • In conjunction with the TPMD and TPM Assesses Trauma Program, develops or revises PMGS, policies, documentation templates and standard order sets in the care of the Trauma patient and provides education to the staff.
  • Attends 75% of all Trauma PIPs meetings.
  • Analyzes registry mechanism of injury data and in conjunction with the TMD and TPM to support the development and implementation of GVH injury prevention initiatives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree Clinical Nurse Specialist and a minimum of four (4) years experience in the ED or ICU in the care of the trauma patient at level II or higher trauma center required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Nurse in PA – licensed, upon hire, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire required.
  • Completion of PA TNCC or current TCRN, upon hire, required.
