The Vice President, Human Resources (VP HR) serves as a highly visible and integral member of the executive team and leads the organizational strategy as it relates to the human capital investment. This role is responsible for planning, developing and executing all HR programs and functions in a manner consistent with the vision and goals of Grand View Health. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this executive will provide leadership and direction to a team dedicated to attracting, engaging, developing and retaining talent throughout the organization while ensuring compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations. The VP HR also serves as a senior-level advisor to the executive team while acting as the ethical and social conscience of the organization. This role oversees day-to-day HR operations and a team comprising 13 FTEs, including an Employee Relations Manager, Recruitment Manager, Compensation & Benefits Manager, Volunteers Manager and HR Assistant.

  • Work closely with the CEO and the executive team to develop and execute human resources strategies that effectively meet, support and enhance business objectives and align with organizational goals.
  • Provide thought leadership to the organization on talent strategy and design; organizational culture; leadership capabilities; employee relations; and diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • In partnership with Operations, proactively plan for future changes in workforce needs and competencies and develop designs to satisfy organizational objectives and attract and retain a skilled, effective and diverse workforce.
  • Align organizational leadership structures within the needs and demands of the organization, and actively monitor leader performance and recommend adjustments in response to changes in the environment.
  • Establish partnerships across operational and clinical functions at all levels of the organization to ensure organizational effectiveness and team member engagement.
  • Serve as advisor to senior leadership in building high-functioning teams and a positive, engaged workforce.
  • Assess leadership competencies and needs and work to bolster leadership skills by providing both formal and informal feedback, training resources and opportunities.
  • Develop strategy to maintain a highly competitive benefit program by monitoring competitors, using employee feedback and benchmarking to make changes while remaining within budget.
  • Develop, evaluate and update compensation strategies for the organization that balance benchmarks, operational demands and financial impact.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction in the areas of talent acquisition, employee relations and compliance, rewards and compensation, organizational culture and leadership development.
  • Develop and operationalize initiatives to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) at Grand View Health.
  • Ensure employment practices are compliant with all related rules, laws, regulations and standards as dictated by several governing and accrediting bodies. Monitor HR activity for risk exposure.
  • Identify areas of improvement and refine existing processes to enhance overall delivery of HR services.
  • Develop framework for internal communications to ensure that messaging is appropriate, timely and engaging.
  • Provide oversight for the Grand View Children's Center, ensuring the optimum educational experience in a caring environment is being executed in accordance with all state regulations.
  • Oversee the Volunteer Program throughout the organization to support operations and foster engagement with the community.
  • Coordinate operations of the hospital Gift Shop and align efforts with member of the GVH Auxiliary to support the GVH mission from proceeds.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or a related discipline is required.
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development or related field is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in human resources management leading to a strategic HR leadership role is required.
  • Knowledge of acute care hospital/health system operations is required.
  • Strong HR generalist base of experience with knowledge in all human resources functions.
  • Experience leading a progressive HR department and serving as a member of a senior executive team in a related healthcare organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current HR trends and application in the healthcare industry.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • SPHR certification is preferred.
