Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the professional staff, the Clinical & Quality Assistant, Emergency Room performs certain non-complex duties related to patient care and functioning of the unit. The Clinical & Quality Assistant, Emergency Room functions to support the staff by assisting with clerical duties, along with delivery of patient care to varied age groups, while providing a calm, caring and clean environment.

Essential Functions Include:
  • Assisting other members of the healthcare team in delivering safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Assisting with or provides basic nursing care in order to help the nurse meet the activities of daily living for the patient.
  • Assisting with patient mobility needs, including turning, positioning, transferring and ambulation of patients as directed, using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  • Maintaining safe patient environment.
  • Responding to emergency situations within the scope of their training and performing under the direction of the nurse.
  • Performing vital signs, including use of automatic blood pressure machine, as directed by nursing staff.
  • Under the direction of the nurse, providing basic skin care to prevent skin breakdown and maintaining or improving skin integrity.
  • Answering call bells and responding to patient requests within their scope or communicating patient needs to the nurse.
  • Transferring and moving patients via wheelchair, bed or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital.
  • Possessing and demonstrating working knowledge of equipment in order to ensure a safe environment.
  • Maintaining open communication with department staff and accepting direction to ensure a safe environment.
  • Understanding and respecting patients' rights to privacy and dignity in order to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ensuring that equipment and supplies considered essential are functional, safe and readily accessible in order to provide a safe environment.
  • Performing department-specific maintenance duties as appropriate to department.
  • Acting as a patient advocate to ensure safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Adhering to standards of practice for infection control and universal precautions.
  • Assisting with communication between the Department Manager, House Supervisor and unit staff regarding the 24-Hour Report, admissions, transfers and bed availability to operationalize department activities.
  • Answering phone and faxing requests for patient information and physician discharge instructions to primary care providers per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Organizing, maintaining and updating departmental files and records in an accurate manner to provide for timely and efficient processing of information.
  • Copying and faxing records in a prompt manner according to established medical records policy in order to fulfill requests from appropriate sources.
  • Assuming responsibility for ordering and restocking supplies necessary for efficient operation of the department within budgetary parameters.

Schedule: 11:00am–11:30pm, every third weekend, every other holiday.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) provided upon hire.
