Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) has responsibility for providing Basic Life Support skills and assisting the EMT-Paramedic in the delivery of pre-hospital patient care. The EMT will provide that care for neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The EMT will act in accordance with Act 37, rules and regulations, PA DOH EMS Protocols and regional and Grand View Health policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:
  • Functions as a certified EMT in a BLS or in the Advanced Life Support Unit, performing procedures as outlined by Act 37, PA rules and regulations and PA DOH EMS Protocols and providing quality pre-hospital care to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Accepts orders from approved Medical Command physicians and promptly implements interventions. When appropriate, provides pre-hospital care according to established PA DOH EMS protocols.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and skills in order to provide quality patient care.
  • Participates in the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Operates, restocks and maintains vehicles to ensure a constant state of readiness.
  • Assists with rescue and extrication of patients. Is able to function safely and effectively in hazardous environments to ensure stabilization and safety of patients and other personnel.
  • Works with local EMS, fire and law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort on the patient's behalf.
  • When Grand View Health EMS business office is closed, obtains information and coordinates efforts to arrange ambulance or wheelchair van transportation.
  • When not performing the functions of an EMT, functions in the Department of Emergency Medicine according to the job description of the Patient Care Technician under the direction of the charge nurse and the professional staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • EMT, certified upon hire, required.
  • Driver's license – PA, upon hire, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire required.
  • Completion of an approved Emergency Vehicle Operators course required.
