Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the professional staff, the Clinical & Quality Assistant, Orthopedics performs certain non-complex duties related to patient care and functioning of the unit. The Clinical & Quality Assistant, Orthopedics functions to support the staff by assisting with clerical duties, along with delivery of patient care, to varied age groups while providing a calm, caring and clean environment.

Essential Functions:

• Assists other members of the healthcare team in delivering safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
• Assists with or provides basic nursing care in order to help the nurse meet the activities of daily living for the patient.
• Assists with patient mobility needs, including turning, positioning, transferring and ambulation of patients as directed, using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
• Maintains safe patient environment.
• Responds to emergency situations within the scope of their training and performs under the direction of the nurse.
• Performs vital signs, including use of automatic blood pressure machine, as directed by nursing staff.
• Under the direction of the nurse, provides basic skin care to prevent skin breakdown and maintain or improve skin integrity.
• Answers call bells and responds to patient requests within their scope or communicates patient needs to the nurse.
• Transfers and moves patients via wheelchair, bed or stretcher to appropriate locations within the hospital.
• Possesses and demonstrates working knowledge of equipment in order to ensure a safe environment.
• Maintains open communication with department staff and accepts direction to ensure a safe environment.
• Understands and respects patients' rights to privacy and dignity in order to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Ensures that equipment and supplies considered essential are functional, safe and readily accessible in order to provide a safe environment.
• Performs department-specific maintenance duties as appropriate to department.
• Acts as a patient advocate to ensure safe, appropriate and quality patient care.
• Adheres to standards of practice for infection control and universal precautions.

Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts in a 2-week period, 7:00am–7:30pm, 4 weekend shifts in a 6-week period, every third holiday, modified self-schedule.
