Responsibilities

• The Insurance Verification Specialist accurately enters all benefit and pre-certification information required for billing purposes.
• Utilizes the Referral/Reservation form and Pre-Admission letter to enter pertinent data for maintaining quality information.
• Obtains pre-certifications when necessary.
• The Insurance Verification Specialist updates insurance information to staff in regards to referral and authorizations should they be required.
• Maintains ongoing knowledge of insurance plans by reading insurance memos and bulletins.
• Ability to recognize patients in financial need and provide charity applications and/or medical assistance applications.
• Resolves outstanding insurance issues prior to admission.
• Maintains pre-maternity lists and insurance work lists to ensure notification of copays is sent out to mothers due within 2 months of their expected delivery.
• Meets with inpatients that have a balance due before they are discharged.
