This part-time position is perfect for its flexibility. The ideal candidate enjoys the retail experience without the late hours and weekends. You also get to contribute your skills to a non-profit making a difference in the community.

This position manages the gift shop (a fundraising project of the Auxiliary) and is responsible for the overall function of the shop, including purchasing, inventory control, recordkeeping, financial management and supervision of the paid and volunteer staff. The manager has responsibility for maintaining the goals and objectives of the fundraising activity and performing duties in support of all hospital policies.

Schedule: Monday-Friday for a total of 40 hours in a biweekly pay period. Days are flexible, 2-3 days/week.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate records and reports. Prepares a monthly financial statement for Auxiliary Chair. Prepares monthly report detailing expenses and sales.
  • Ensures daily reconciliations are made accurately, deposits made on a timely basis, and sale taxes are submitted as required by Pennsylvania state law.
  • Receives merchandise and reconciles invoices to purchase orders. Ensures timely payment of invoices. Discounts and shortages are handled immediately.
  • Maintains pricing/markdown policy to ensure timely stock turn. Maintains constant awareness of inventory and restocking, as needed.
  • Merchandises to create an exciting, inviting image to encourage customers to purchase. Maintains organization of sales floor, offices and stockrooms.
  • Maintains knowledge of gift shop customer base and current market trends to ensure appropriate buying decisions are made. Attends trade shows. Interacts and meets with sales representatives and vendors.
  • Implements development of gift shop marketing strategies. Makes optimum use of in-house publications to promote gift shop.
  • Completes all annual paid staff performance appraisals.
  • Assists in sales and resolves customer issues.
  • Organizes the taking of physical inventory at the end of each fiscal year.
  • Contacts Auxiliary Gift Shop Chair with major changes.
  • Supervises Gift Shop Clerk and Stock Clerk.


  • High school diploma/GED and over 3 to 5 years of experience in the retail sales industry is required, including merchandise purchasing, product marketing and knowledge of vendor-client relationship and customer relations, required.
