Manager, Clinical Engineering
Full Time, 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday

The Manager, Clinical Engineering manages and supports the Biomedical Technology Management program and provides leadership and assistance in the operation and support of clinical technology. Manages the day-to-day activities of reporting technicians and provides the daily coordination between the Biomedical departments and users of the departments' services.

Essential Functions of the Manager, Clinical Engineering:
  • Sets up daily goals and objectives with the biomedical equipment technicians.
  • Manages daily workload, technicians and inspection assignments.
  • Ensures quality of work meets specifications and complies with safety standards, hospital standards and all pertinent regulations (The Joint Commission, Department of Health).
  • Responds to all emergency repairs and department assistance requests.
  • Performs hospital and outpatient center PMs and routine unscheduled non-emergency repairs.
  • Monitors effectiveness of the PM schedules.
  • Reviews equipment-related problems and takes corrective action to minimize risk and waste.
  • Provide Materials Management department assistance with new equipment purchases, evaluates individual equipment purchase quotes and organizes installations of new equipment. Inventory and inspections of all incoming equipment.
  • Manages hospital TV installation and service, including television repairs, replacements and installations.
  • Regulatory agency inspection compliance. Participates when required with inspection compliance, being available for any regulatory agency inspections providing maintenance reports, if needed. Knows all regulations and policies associated with medical equipment maintenance.
  • Runs MediMizer PM reports weekly to gauge the progress, sets up schedules with techs and departments to complete PMs in a timely manner, and then reporte on the completion rate.
  • Runs biweekly department productivity report.
  • Runs monthly reporting to create scheduled work orders.
  • Runs quarterly PM work orders for GVH outpatient locations.
  • Chairs and schedules Medical Equipment Sub-Committee (MESC) Meeting with members of the MESC to discuss the quarterly report, along with any other equipment issues.
  • Maintains, by using vendor-supplied, or develops preventive maintenance procedure and attaches to equipment.
  • Reviews and monitors all OEM service contracts.
  • Maintains MediMizer database for accuracy of clinical engineering inventory. Audits database and purges obsolete equipment and information.
  • Leads at least one process improvement initiative per year.
  • Oversees ongoing quality improvement process for all biomed equipment in conjunction with applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Directs the evaluation, acquisition, acceptance, education and replacement of biomedical equipment. Monitors warranty/contract service and recommends in-house service where applicable.
  • Develops and manages department budget at or below budget expectations and consistent with adjustment volume and new equipment.
  • Stretches capital resources by extending life of existing assets.
  • Assists with selection of equipment vendors.
  • Prepares and reviews operating and capital budgets and other purchase orders required for the Clinical Engineering department.



  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Technology and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a healthcare/biomed environment required.
  • 3 years of supervisory/management experience in medical equipment field required.
  • Over 1 year of experience in computers, networking and electronics, including solid state technology (linear and digital circuit operations).
