The Medical Lab Technician, Generalist performs a variety of diagnostic testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Blood Bank following established practices and standards. The Medical Lab Technician, Generalist will perform laboratory tests and procedures within scope of education, credentialing and experience for this role and will maintain annual competencies in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology and Microbiology. This individual will be able to function independently in all these areas. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to ensure quality results.
This is a per diem role with shifts in the weekday and weekends.
Job duties include:
Receiving assignments according to the established departmental procedures and plans. Organizing and prioritizing work duties to accomplish daily objectives.
Performing testing procedures and related work according to established protocols and standards with minimal technical and/or data entry error in order to report results to the requesting party.
Operating equipment and working with highly technical instrumentation according to established procedures and protocols in order to ensure the accuracy of test results.
Performing equipment maintenance and repair according to operator's manuals in order to facilitate testing procedures and avoid downtime.
Assaying appropriate controls, stands and other quality control material according to protocol in order to maintain the testing environment.
Performing venipunctures according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.
1-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Health Certifying Agencies (NCHCA), i.e., ASCP, HEW, HCA, upon hire, required.
