Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Unit Director, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, mentoring and leading the team, ensuring the highest level of patient safety and quality, regulatory compliance and building positive and collaborative relationships across all levels.
Under the direction of the ICU Director, the Nurse Manager plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and evaluates overall clinical and administrative activities in the ICU department and Vascular team. In the absence of the ICU Director, the Nurse Manager assumes ultimate responsibility for staff oversight and the care of patients within the ICU.
Essential Functions:

Supervises, evaluates, guides and counsels nursing staff in their work performance.

Ensures that staffing patterns provide optimal delivery of nursing care.

Provides guidance and support to all nursing staff and ensures compliance, safety and quality metrics, and nursing practice are maintained.

Oversees staff retention, education and competency, as well as supporting the professional development of the staff.

Develops and maintains a departmental budget, maintaining high patient satisfaction and acting as a liaison and facilitator between the ICU department and other clinical areas of the hospital.

Utilizes strategic planning process to facilitate long-range focus in planning, budgeting, procedure and documentation development.

Participates in recruitment and retention strategies and activities.

Provides ongoing counseling and positive discipline in accordance with Human Resources policies, including termination when indicated.

Participates in and supports organizational changes in a constructive manner.

Promotes and participates in shared-governance concepts and decision-making process.

Maintains professional enhancement through independent learning activities, professional networking and attending relevant seminars, conferences or continuing education programs.

Works collaboratively with other hospital departments and personnel to develop, implement and support quality improvement initiatives and opportunities.
Grand View Health's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 14-bed unit that provides comprehensive care for patients with complex health problems. The unit also cares for seriously ill or injured patients who require close observation and constant care. A brand-new Hospital Pavilion is opening in Summer 2023. The new pavilion will be home to both the Telemetry and ICU levels of care with 52 private patient rooms. The newest in-room technology creates ease of use for staff to deliver exceptional care to patients.
